At approximately 9:05pm PST on Jan.24 2004, the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity landed slightly to the southeast of this image. The rover's goal is to investigate the hematite found by the Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES) on board the Mars Global Surveyor orbiter.
